Maddy's Day Out

Day # 3

Billy and I are taking each of the kids out this week for a special day to themselves to celebrate the past 10yrs here in NC.  We have had so much fun planning their special days and the kids have been so excited for their siblings when they get to have their days. Here are some pics from Maddy's Special Day Out.

I just had to include this first picture, this was taken just before we left the house. As you can see Maddy loves animals. She enjoys watching and learning as she would say "exploring"  Maddy was the first one awake and ready to start her day. She said this is better than getting Christmas presents! (hhmm should we keep that in mind???) We kept all the activities a surprise so none of the kids knew where they were going until we drove up to each activity.

Maddy has helped for a couple years on a rescue horse farm and these horses are not able to be ridden, so she has always wanted to ride a horse.

This is Maddy's face as she let out a big cheer in the car when she noticed the sign. After a quick wardrobe change our cowgirl was ready for her first stop.

Ms. Carrie gave Maddy a full lesson, which meant she starts with getting the horse brushed, cleaned and saddled. Maddy said the horse, Skeeter, reminded her of one of the horses at the rescue farm.

Ms. Carrie taught her how to clean the hooves as well.

Maddy jumped right in and literally wanted to take the reigns.

Skeeter waited patiently as Maddy received instruction on how to ride.

Maddy never stopped smiling. Ms. Carrie said Maddy was a natural and learned quickly so she let her go out of the ring by herself. (Carrie was close by)

One happy girl!

The lesson is not over until the horse is brushed, washed, equipment back in place and Skeeter back in his stall. Ms. Carrie said that is all part of taking care of a horse, you can't just jump on and ride.

It was a pleasure meeting Ms. Carrie. Maddy learned a lot from her and she made the day extra special.

Maddy loves all kinds of animals, including those slow cooked over a pit, so off we went to The Q Shack at North Hills for lunch.

Maddy's favorite TV channel is Animal Planet and she would watch Animal Cops all day long if she could! So off we the Animal Control Center. Before we went in we had a group talk about how we would NOT be taking any animals home with us.

We explored the shelter & talked with the staff and read the information on the dogs.

After looking at 4 rooms full of dogs, Maddy's heart was captured by this little guy.. This was her favorite dog out of all the shelter and said that she would take this dog home if she could. This dog was missing one of its eyes but the timid dog peered at Maddy and came up from the back of the kennel to see her.

One of the best parts of the visit, I didn't get pictures!!! Maddy talked with an animal control officer who shared lots of stories about being in the field.

Next, we headed to the Natural Science Museum in Raleigh.

Like Logan she looked at every display and studied the exhibits.

Maddy watched the poisonous frogs get fed and she talked and asked questions with the staff.

Our last stop was Sweet Ce-Ce's for frozen yogurt.. Yum!

Day 3 down and 1 more to go so stay tuned for highlights from Breanna's day, it was one creative event!

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
   your works are wonderful,
   I know that full well.

  1. Just perfect. Maddy is a sweetie pie and has a heart as big as China...maybe bigger. I'm so glad you made a dream come true for her! What fun! Looking forward to Bre's day.
